Christmas Is Coming

I heard my first Christmas song this weekend and am starting to get excited. I love the festivities of the season and thought I would let you know of some of the events planned on Ocean Isle Beach to usher in the holiday. There is a full day of events on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, or as the Ocean Isle Beach Owners Association (OIPOA) likes to call it - SUPER SATURDAY!

At 1:30pm all those who have decorated their carts, their bikes, their dogs, and of course- themselves line up in the Museum Parking lot to participate in the Christmas parade.
At 2:00pm the parade starts. At 5:00pm we have the Christmas tree lighting celebrated with carol singing on the Causeway. Afterwards, at 5:30pm, Santa comes to the Fire station - where hot chocolate, coffee and treats will be served.

And finally, my very favorite - the Regatta or the HOLIDAY FLOTILLA. The event was organized just four years ago and was an instant success. Participation is easy. just call either of the originators, Charles Griffin 910-612-7799 or Andy Russ 910-443-8904 and sign up. There is a $20. entry fee and a captains meeting the evening before at Sharkey's (5:30pm). On Super Saturday participants will gather at 4:45pm at the Shallotte River and the Flotilla will navigate west to Ocean Isle Beach. I am such an advocate of this parade that I offer my dock, on a first come basis, to any OIB home owner who would like to participate in the flotilla that does not have a property on the canals, (just email me, [email protected]) .

Proceeds from the Holiday Flotilla will benefit the Brunswick Family Assistance program. Additionally, in tradition of the season, at all the events of the day, the OIPOA will be collecting donations both monetary and non-perishable food goods for the Second Helping food program which distributes to needy area families and to local food pantries. So bring and give what you can.

There are additional area activities at the Museum of Coastal Carolina, https://museumplanetarium.org/; and the Ingram Planetarium, http://www.ingramplanetarium.org/.

Ocean Isle Beach is a great place with great people who enjoy the blessings of nature and family. So come, participate and Enjoy!
